PE4-Weebly.com

Let me start by saying that www.weebly.com is an amazing classroom website tool. I found the tool in month two i believe and it was a snap to create my classroom website. In researching the site, I discovered that I could also allow my students to create websites using the same layout that I used to create my classroom website. All student websites are password protected to ensure the safety of the students. I have already begun using the website in my classroom. However, since I have limited access to computers, my students have not been able to do much creating on their websites. All students have designed and named their own websites. They have written a welcome message on the home page and created a blog page. To further the student's knowledge of this tool, my RILS will be to teach them how to create a new page. On this new page the student will need to include one picture and one video. Some of the settings are different on the teacher version compared to the student version. To prepare for what the student will see I have created a fake student account to be able to "play" with the tool.

Once the new page is created and then saved, the student will be redirected to their new page. Weebly.com's default is to open the elements thumb tab at the top. If the students were to need a different tab, they would need to click on it. However, we will be needing the elements tab. As you can see in the picture above, the elements tab allows the student to "drag and drop" the desired design feature/ element into their new page. To add a picture the students will choose either paragraph with picture or picture. The students will be able to easily drop and drag the photo element into the page. This is where I thought it might get tricky. In the teacher version, there are many different ways to place a picture in the picture spot. I discovered that this is not the case in the student version, which is a good thing.
Students can either pick from the computer or a list of kid friendly free pictures.
Next, I will check on how the students will be able to upload appropriate videos. I think I might need to do some Web 2.0 tools research for a youtube student friendly website. Check back later to find out what I uncover.
